Level Up Your Email Marketing Efforts

Have you been slowly building your email list but seeing little to no conversions? If you are ready to get serious about making money from email, check out these tips to make email marketing more effective. It’s time to take things to the next level!

how to take your email marketing to the next level

This post contains affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase through one of these links, I may receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you. All opinions are my own. Read my full disclosure here.

First Steps

If you’re looking to take your email efforts to the next level, I’m going to assume you’ve already chosen your email service provider (ESP) and created at least one
opt-in freebie.

If not, head over to my post:
How to Get Started With Email Marketing (to make money)

So, let’s assume you’ve already taken these important first steps.

You’re building your list, emailing at least once a week, but you aren’t seeing results.

That’s ok! There is a lot to learn. Email marketing can be really lucrative if done correctly. But it can also seem like a really big waste of time if your efforts aren’t bringing you any results.

The following are some of my favourite tools, experts, and resources for making your email marketing strategy more effective.

Some free. Some paid. All great!

First I want to introduce you to 4 of my favourite email marketing experts:

• Kate Doster
• Liz Wilcox
• Troy Ericson
• Angela Vaz

These brilliant email gurus have made entire careers out of helping people (like you and me) unlock the secrets to successful email marketing (and more).

1. Offering The Best Opt-In Freebie

You know you need a freebie to attract subscribers. And you likely already have one. But if it’s not converting, you may be missing the mark and need a better opt-in idea.

This is where Kate Doster comes in.

Kate’s advice is solid gold. Often, when you sign up for a free course, email series, webinar, etc., it usually ends in an upsell and doesn’t offer a ton of value.

They are usually good for very new beginners to get their feet wet, but then typically require a purchase to learn the really helpful stuff.

Well. Not so with Kate Doster.

I highly recommend her free webinar. I can honestly say this is the best, free…anything…I’ve ever taken.

Check out Freebies That Sell & Serve to learn what makes an effective opt-in freebie.

You’ll get insight into why some of your opt-ins might not be converting, what might work better, and other super helpful tips Kate just loves to dish out.

P.S. If you’re really ready to take your list to the next level, you cannot go wrong with Kate’s Love Your List.

This course is extremely popular, well loved, and beyond helpful!

It’s also very pricey.

I do not expect you to jump in and buy this course right away. It IS worth the money. But it is also a serious investment.

I simply can’t write a post about taking your email marketing to the next level without at least mentioning it.

P.S. On October 5th & 6th, Kate’s offering her FREE workshop, The Cookie Effect: How to Write Emails So Good, They’ll Lick the Screen

You don’t want to miss it. And again, it’s free to attend.

2. Writing More Effective Emails + Copy

Maybe you’re really having trouble generating income from your email list because you just don’t know what to say. Or you just don’t have amazing writing and sales copy skills.

All good! Not everyone does.

If you just plain need help with the actual words you are sending to your subscribers, you will love Liz Wilcox.

This pro email expert offers a fabulous Email Marketing Membership.

This includes weekly newsletter templates, videos, Q&A sessions, guest expert trainings, and more.

If you just genuinely hate writing emails, check out all the details HERE.

P.S. If you want a taste of Liz’s email style, head over to her product page and grab her free email swipe files.

And then of course, once again, Kate Doster comes to mind to save the day as well.

I personally love Kate’s email style. So her Email Marketing Fairy template kit is always on my list of top recommendations.

An affordable 1-time purchase gets you 60+ Email Marketing Templates (with examples) covering everything from weekly newsletters to sales funnels, and lots of other juicy little nuggets in between.

3. Reduce Your Email Unsubscriber Numbers

It can be so disheartening when you put so much effort into composing the perfect email, only to see people unsubscribed after opening it.

You should know though, that unsubscribes are totally normal and should be expected. There are a lot of people out there who just sign up for newsletters to get the opt-in freebie, and then bail.

TRY not to let it get you down.

If unsubscribers are bumming you out, I recently discovered an email genius named Troy Ericson.

And he introduced me to his fascinating video, The Unsub Secret.

I purchased this $9 training video and was blown away. Troy’s Unsub Secret teaches an amazing hack to actually turn unsubscribers into buyers.

It takes less than 20 minutes to learn. And it’s brilliant!

I didn’t know it was even possible to add this little secret technique to your emails, but I wish I’d learned about it sooner.

Learn more about The Unsub Secret and see if it’s something you want to learn too. I have a feeling word is going to spread quickly about this one.

Troy also offers some other amazing trainings.

Like, how to keep your emails from going into the Promo Tab or spam folders. And how to re-engage your inactive subscribers.

He even offers one on one calls to see how he can help you and your list.

4. Creating More Effective Email Marketing Funnels

You’ve likely been hearing the words “sales funnel” floating around since you started your list. But what actually is a funnel?

Your sales funnel is the fun little journey that your readers/subscribers take to purchase your product or service.

It could start with your opt-in freebie. Then turn into a series of follow up emails after your audience signs up for your list.

A handful of emails to build trust and prove you know what you’re talking about before you offer them the bigger, better, paid version of that freebie or a similar product.

Your sales funnel has huge potential if done properly. And it can run on autopilot. Bringing you steady subscribers and ultimately, sales.

To really learn the ins and outs of a successful funnel, the post below by Angela Vaz is the most in depth piece of content I’ve found on the subject.

Check it out: How to Write an Epic Sales Funnel For Your Blog

P.S. Angela also has an entire ebook on creating consistent income from sales funnels. If you’re ready to boost your bank balance with funnels, check out out below:

Once you have a good understanding of this concept and are ready to create your own epic sales funnel, do yourself a favour, and increase conversions with professional looking sales pages.

Check out these pro funnel templates – all only $5! Perfect if you don’t excel at designing landing pages. Or just want to save time and not second guess yourself!

I really like the Free challenge email funnel sales page template. Free challenges are a great idea for an opt-in freebie.

They are simple to create and people feel like they’re getting a mini course, for free.

5. Increase Subscribers Through Bundles & Giveaways

If getting more subscribers is your goal, a fantastic way to increase your numbers is by participating in bundles.

If you haven’t been part of a bundle before these are a great way to build your list by collaborating with other bloggers.

I’m sure you’ve received many emails about bundle offers. Think, Genius Blogger’s Toolkit and BC Stack.

You contribute a freebie, service, or digital product to the bundle (for free), and anyone who purchases the bundle gets your contribution by signing up to your list.

How to Find Bundles/Giveaways to Submit Products to

Because I’ve received lots of offers for bundles via email, I have searched my old emails for the words “bundle” or “giveaway”.

Then, simply email the blogger who organized the bundle to see if they have any upcoming bundles open for contributors.

You can also reach out to other bloggers you know who have had their products featured in bundles to see if they know of anyone hosting a future bundle offer.

And don’t forget about Facebook support groups. You can always just ask around in various groups to see if any fellow bloggers are in the know.

Not in many groups yet?

Run a Giveaway Contest

Don’t rule out hosting your own giveaway.

Offer a giveaway contest on your site where people can enter to win a free copy of one of your digital products. Or one of your services.

They plug in their email address for a chance to win.

You can create a contest like this using KingSumo.
