Learning to blog without spending a fortune
Want to start a blog for free? Who doesn’t? I get it. I’ve been there too.
You want to start a blog to make money…because you don’t have any! And while I strongly believe (now) that you need to make some investments in order to create a successful blog, it IS possible to do it without spending a fortune. In this post, I’ll share how to learn blogging basics on a tight budget.

Getting Started as a New Blogger
If you haven’t started your blog yet but are just researching what’s involved, you’ve come to the right place.
If you have already started your blog, congratulations!
Wherever you are in your blogging journey, it can all seem pretty overwhelming. There is SO much information to absorb. It can be really hard to know what you should learn first.
Personally, if I were to start all over again from day 1, I’d do things a little differently.
Don’t get me wrong, I am making money from my blog. Between my blog income and my work as a virtual assistant (using the skills I learned from blogging), I’m making enough to do it full time, from home, and on my own terms.
BUT, I wasted a lot of time thinking I could just read free blog posts to learn everything I needed to know. I discovered pretty quickly, and you likely will too, that you get what you pay for.
There is a reason why pro bloggers charge for their courses and eBooks. They are valuable!
They will propel you to success so much faster than if you try learning everything on your own, for free. I promise you this.
Where to start? 6 Important Blogging Topics to Learn NOW
If I could start again, knowing what I know now, I’d invest in 6 pieces of education.
I would buy some form of training on:
• Starting a blog – the right way (hosting, themes, domain names, WordPress, etc.)
• SEO – search engine optimization (this is a big one. Maybe the most important).
• Affiliate marketing (how it works, finding products to sell, how to make sales).
• Blogging legally (more important than you might think).
• Email marketing (huge source of income if done right).
• Pinterest marketing (powerful way to generate blog traffic, and my top source of traffic).
Guess what? I did eventually invest in each of these 6 topics as part of my blogging education. They are all connected and work hand in hand to make my blog function and earn me money.
If I hadn’t been cheap and stubborn, I would have been making far more money, much sooner.
Learning these key aspects of blogging has been integral in me being able to quit my 9-5 day job.
How to Learn These 6 Basic Blogging Topics
I’m sure you’re thinking, “if I could afford 6 different courses, I wouldn’t need to start a blog!” And I hear you. I couldn’t afford it when I started either. But hear me out.
Because I was once like you, and because I know you’re considering blogging to make money, not spend it, and because there are so many others out there looking for a similar solution, I wanted to make a guide that I wish I’d had when I first started.
What if you could learn the basics of each of those 6 topics, in an easy to understand way, and then know where to go next when you’re ready to dive deeper and implement those important next steps?
Sounds great, right?
Well, I created that exact training package just for people like you (and old me).
It’s called The Build a Successful Blog Bundle. And beginner bloggers are loving it!
What’s included:
You’ll get 6 mini eBooks, bundled together in one beginner-friendly training manual. Think of it as a nice way to ease into each aspect of blogging without getting overwhelmed.

Thank you, Crystal! It’s definitely a lot of work to create a product. Some more so than others. Good luck with yours!
Such an insightful post and what awesome tips! I will be reffering back to this thank you
No problem, Leena. Glad you found it helpful.
These are some really valuable tips! As a new blogger myself, I also thought that I could learn/do everything I needed for free, but I’m learning its much more valuable to pay a bit and get the rewards!
It really does speed up the process to invest in paid courses. Everytime I bite the bullet and buy a new course, I always wish I’d done it sooner.
This sounds like a great course! Everything you listed is so important for bloggers and it is interesting to note that so many so-called “blogging courses” don’t even touch on some of those very important topics. There is a ton of value listed here & I’m sure your course is going to do very well!
Thanks Keirsten 🙂 I tried to cover some of the most important topics to create a good foundation for new bloggers to build on.
These are great tips and I found this post very useful with where I currently am in my blogging journey. Thank you!
Thanks Erica! I’m so glad you found it helpful. Good luck with your blog 🙂
