How to Make Passive Income Selling PLR Products
Let’s talk about PLR. You may have been hearing those 3 little letters floating around in your efforts to find ways to boost your income. Curious? You should be!
In this post, we’ll dive into what PLR means and how to make extra money with PLR products.
This post contains affiliate links. This means if you make a purchase through one of these links, I may receive a small commission, at no extra cost to you. All opinions are my own. Read my full disclosure here.
Selling digital products can be a great way to make extra money.
You spend the time to create the product once, and it has the potential to sell continuously and bring in income with little effort. If marketed properly, of course.
That small investment in time can lead to a lucrative passive income business.
But what if you don’t have the time? Or the idea. Or the design skills.
That’s where PLR products can save the day!

What IS PLR?
PLR stands for Private Label Rights, and it allows you to purchase existing content, or other digital goods, customize them and market them as your own.
It’s like hitting the easy button on digital product or content creation!
With PLR you have the ability to take an article/work created by someone else and modify it as you see fit. All copyright is transferred into your name after purchase!
To put it simply, you pay for the right to sell someone else’s design as your own.
Once you’ve purchased the product, you can add it to your online store to increase income, use it as a bonus for another product, or offer it as an opt-in freebie to grow your email list.
Can you really resell PLR as your own?
Yep! You can edit the design, or simply add it to your online shop and start selling within minutes.
Change the name, colours, delete details that don’t apply to you, or add new details you want to include.
You can also delete or add entire pages if you want.
What you can’t do is market it as PLR or resell it as a template.
It should also be noted that you can’t sell things in an Etsy shop that you did not create. So you couldn’t just buy a product and upload it right to your Etsy shop. You’d need to make it your own first.
Popular PLR Products
There are so many different types of PLR products out there.
The most popular ones are things like printable planners, lists, colouring pages, tracking lists, checklists, workbooks, journals, etc.
More often than not, these are either used as freebies or items you sell at a really affordable rate.
But if they’re cute and offer your readers value, those small sales will really add up over time.
How do you monetize PLR?
Making extra money from PLR products or POD (print on demand) products is easy!
Start by finding a product you know you can market to your audience.
Or one that you can alter enough to make it something that would provide value to them.
Purchase that product, usually for a very reasonable rate, and make it your own. Next, add it to your online shop for a fair price and promote it to your email list, social media followers, etc.
You can either leave it at that OR take it one step further and turn that product into several. I’m talking 10-12 more sellable items from one purchase!
This means 10-12 times more profit!

Use PLR Products as a Template
You can also use PLR as an inspirational tool for your own creativity.
Maybe you’ve been wanting to create your own digital products for a while. You have an idea but lack the motivation to actually create it.
Why not buy a similar product and use it as a starting point to lay the groundwork. A way to inspire you and then really make it your own.
Sometimes we all need a little helping hand in the creative process.
Buying PLR just to use it as a template for your own idea is the perfect solution when you’re facing creative blocks.

Where to find PLR to sell:
There are a lot of PLR sites out there but these are a few of my favourites. The products are cute, trendy, and well thought out.
All of these ladies offer high quality PLR Products and they have a great reputation in the industry. You can’t go wrong with any of them!
P.S. a blogger I know bought one of PLR Gal’s products a couple months ago, didn’t change a thing, and she’s already made nearly $500 from it!
PLR Tips for Success
I know all this sounds easy, and maybe a little too good to be true.
But it’s important to follow some guidelines before diving in and buying all the PLR you can get your hands on.
1. Don’t just buy a PLR product because it’s affordable.
Not all PLR products are created equal.
People want the cute, pretty printables. The trendy looking ones.
Ask yourself if YOU saw it, would you have to have it? Those are the ones that will do well and actually make you extra money.
Are they well thought out and designed? Will they actually offer value to your readers?
Be critical before you hit that purchase button.

2. Don’t hoard PLR.
Many people fall into this trap. They find a good deal or something they can see using in the future. But remember that you’re buying done-for-you products to save time.
You’ll never make money on these products if you don’t actually get around to using them.
Find the best product for you, make it your own, add it to your shop, and promote it.
THEN, buy another and start again.
3. Make the PLR your own.
Don’t just buy it and sell it as is.
I mean, you CAN. As I mentioned above, I do know people who do this.
BUT you know your readers better than the PLR creator does. You’ll likely have more success if you put your own spin on it and really make it appeal to them.
Change the name, change the colours. If it’s written content you’re buying, make sure you agree with what’s being said. Edit it to sound like it’s actually your style and your voice.
What PLR Sites Should You Avoid?
There are tons of sites that offer PLR content wrong.
There might be an article that you like, but if it doesn’t come with a full license that you purchase or has the wrong license (only allowing you to use it for personal use, not commercial) then stay away from them!
Also, stay away from free PLR or content that doesn’t have a license. You never know where they may have come from and how legitimate they may be.
Basically, make sure you’re buying from a reputable source. If you have questions or if anything is unclear, reach out to the owner first to make sure you fully understand what you’re getting.
Where are the best places to sell PLR?
This will depend on your business. You may already have a blog or website and just need to add a shop to it. Or you could be starting from scratch to start a PLR side hustle.
Depending on your individual needs, you’ll have to choose the platform that makes the most sense for you.
You can look into these popular options for selling PLR:
Shopify, WooCommerce, Sendowl, ThriveCart, and Etsy.
Already having a blog, I just needed to add an online store.
I chose to use (and love) Sendowl.
I find it’s the most affordable and easy to use when you’re just starting out.
